There are millions of people who never watched NFL veteran Alex Karras play a single down of football, but are still mourning him today, as word comes that he?has died at age 77.

Karras and real-life wife Susan Clark starred on "Webster," playing the white couple who adopted young African-American Webster Long after his parents were killed in a car accident. Former defensive lineman Karras played a former football player who'd been a teammate of young Webster's dad.
?"Webster" is his most famous TV role, but Karras also appeared on "M*A*S*H," "The Odd Couple," and "Match Game '75."
?Karras also appeared on the big screen. He's perhaps best known as Mongo, who punched out a horse, in the 1974 comedy classic "Blazing Saddles." He also appeared in "Porky's," "Victor Victoria," and "Against All Odds."

And for three years, he served as a commentator on ABC's "Monday Night Football."
?In early 2012, Karras was part of a group of players who filed suit against the NFL over its treatment of head injuries.
A Karras family spokesman said he died at home, surrounded by his family. The Los Angeles Times reports that in addition to his wife, survivors include George, Alex Jr. and Peter and daughter, Katie.
